November, 2001 At a glance, you see brilliant colors bursting from the canvas. Look deeper and you see forests, zippers, stairs, happy eyes, and even female forms. I am referring to the latest collection by artist Quezalcoatl, entitled "La pubertad de mis colores" (The Puberty of My Colors). Experience this captivating display of color, now showing at Biaggi & Faure Fine Art Gallery. At the young age of 30, "La pubertad de mis colores" marks the third individual exhibition for Quezalcoatl. His first solo show in 1993, entitled "Mis primeras curvas" (My First Curves), was a celebration of the birth of his art, in which the female form was the collection's focal point. Today, eight years later, after various exhibitions and creative growth, those curves continue to develop, grow, and transform into works of art that emphasize the beauty of his nature, the amusement of color, and the female presence. According to the artist, "La pubertad de mis colores" is a celebration of this stage in his career. "All the works are trees, which symbolize everything I have planted during my years as an artist," he said. "I chose the tree because it represents nature, what's real, truth, and life. It is the forest of my ideas, interests, and accomplishments." This impressive display of art consists of originals created in diverse sizes, including those preferred by the artist. Quezalcoatl was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1971. He was named by his father in tribute to the Gualtemaltecan god and bird that symbolizes freedom. His artistic career began in 1983 at Andy Bueso Art Academy, followed by studies under Spanish painter José Azaustre. Quezalcoatl then studied at Pratt Institute and Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). The artist has presented two other individual exhibitions, "Mis primeras curvas," Casa Alcaldía, San Juan (1983), and "Las habitaciones de mi sistema," Bankers Club, Hato Rey (2000). His work also has been featured in various collective expositions, including "OPArt" Arsenal de la Puntilla, San Juan (1995) and "16 canciones para tu ojos," Zabó, San Juan (1997). In 2000, Quezalcoatl won first prize in the Tercer Certamen de Arte, Cultura y Turismo, in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. Currently, the artist's creations are among the most sought after and can be found in important corporate and individual collections in Puerto Rico and the United States. Quezalcoatl is represented by Biaggi & Faure Fine Art. Located at 1035 Ave. Jesús T.
