January 3, 2002 SAN JUAN (AP) - Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) Rep. Victor Garcia San Inocencio is getting ready to begin the new legislative year with mayor projects and trusts that they will be as welcomed by the House as his previous ones. Garcia San Inocencio said his experience as the House minority has been very good, as 40 of his bills were approved in 2001, some of them are yet to be signed into law, and others were for investigative purposes. The legislator said his agenda for 2002 includes paying attention to the administration bills to combat government corruption, legalizing the creation of the so-called Blue Ribbon Committee, and amending the Electoral Law regarding campaign financing. Garcia San Inocencio also considers that more time should be dedicated to the issue of the health reform in terms of monitoring its procedures. As part of his legislative duties, he said he will be monitoring closely the proposals on economic development because they cannot continue benefiting the rich, making the system more regressive for the working class people who pay taxes. The PIP legislator also intends to file social-interest bills and push forward his own proposals to reform the education system, take care of the problems of the elderly, and the victims of domestic violence in Puerto Rico.
