Marc Anthony Promotes Second English Language Album On Island

Cool and collected, with plenty of energy and a huge smile, pop star and salsa singer Marc Anthony arrived to the island to promote his second English language album, "Mended."
The singer of Puerto Rican descent held a press conference in Isla Verde on Tuesday, one day prior to the Miss Universe 2002 event, which will be held for the second consecutive year on the island, this time at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in Hato Rey.
"I am very happy to be here…you all know what Miss Universe means at my home," Marc Anthony said, referring to his wife, Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres.
Unlike last year, when he and his wife were members of the jury that gave Puerto Rico its fourth beauty queen, Marc Anthony’s participation in this year’s pageant will be limited to that of performer.
He said he will sing two songs, one of them titled "I’ve Got You," from his latest album.
However, Marc Anthony noted that he still hasn’t decided which will be the second one, as record company Sony Discos has had some objections to Marc Anthony’s singing a song in Spanish in the midst of the promotional campaign of his second English language album.
"We are still working on it. There are people who will see me for the first time, they should know who I really am. So why not sing salsa and one from the English album?" Marc Anthony said.
But for now, he said he would try out several songs during Tuesday’s rehearsal before reaching a final decision.
Marc Anthony also took the opportunity to announced his national tour, scheduled to begin July 6 and to end in September with a final presentation in San Juan.
He said an international tour is also in the works and didn’t rule out working on several acting projects after that.
During the press conference, Marc Anthony talked about his career, his new family, and his expectations for the near future.
He said "Mended" is a more mature album and, although he is very pleased with his achievements, he does not consider himself to be a king or a pop music phenomenon of the 21st century.
"I don’t compare myself with anyone. I just do my job. All those titles of king, of being a phenomenon don’t go with who I am at all," Marc Anthony said.
Having been raised in Spanish Harlem, New York, Marc Anthony also said success hasn’t changed who he has always been, and that he hopes to establish a music school for the children of that community as a token of his gratitude and appreciation. He had no further details on that project, however.
At 32, Marc Anthony has released four albums: "Contra la Corriente," "Todo a su Tiempo," "Marc Anthony"–his first English language album–and now "Mended."
He has won a Latin Grammy for his hit song Dimelo, the Spanish version of I need to know, and another Grammy for Best Latin/Tropical Performance.
He also has been awarded 12 Latin and standard gold and platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America.
