After several months of remodeling and revamping, the Almacenes Rodriguez store in Plaza Las Americas is showing off its new "Prada-like look." The shoe retailer is also planning to open two new stores in other shopping malls on the island, though no sites have been chosen, according to Marketing & Public Relations Director Maite Rodriguez.

"Finally, our store in Plaza Las Americas is open for business," Rodriguez said. "This store is a little different from the others because it has more of a boutique style. We only offer our more upscale shoe lines there. We also offer casual shoes that enjoy great demand from our customers."

Rodriguez added that the 75-year-old company is looking to expand in Puerto Rico. "We are in negotiations with other enclosed shopping malls, but we still haven’t made any final decisions. We do plan to open two more stores in a year," she said.

Family-owned business Almacenes Rodriguez made a big comeback from years of dwindling sales last summer thanks to the family’s fourth generation, led by Rodriguez.
