CHARLES A. RODRIGUEZ

PUERTO RICO SENATE
Charles A. Rodriguez was first elected Senator in November 1992. He became Majority Leader in January 1993. He won re-election to a second term in 1996 and was elevated to the presidency of the Senate in 1997.
Senator Rodriguez is a member of the New Progressive Party, the governing party that favors statehood for Puerto Rico. He is also very active in the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico and in the National Democratic Party.
Senator Rodriguez served two terms as State Representative from 1981-1988. He has served as president of the New Progressive Party youth organization and as vice-chairman of the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico. He has also been a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1980, 1984, 1992 and 1996.
Charlie began his political career in 1979 when he became president of the New Progressive Party youth chapter in his hometown of Carolina, Puerto Rico. He served as City Councilman in Carolina from 1979-1980.
Senator Rodriguez was born in New York City in 1954. He received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his juris doctorate degree from the University of Puerto Rico. He is married to Katherine Erazo and together they have three children: Nicole, Valerie and Christie.
