Source: World Reporter (TM) San Juan, Mar 7 (EFE).- Drugs, crime and corruption are the three major concerns of Puerto Ricans , who describe the country's situation as generally "very bad," according to a poll released Tuesday in the capital. The poll, taken by El Nuevo Dia on Feb. 27 and conducted throughout the island, with the exception of the municipalities of Vieques and Culebra, was based on a sample of 1,000 adults, who indicated that Aids and unemployment were also important concerns. The results suggested that Puerto Ricans also support protests taking place at a restricted area on the island of Vieques and show little interest in indefinitely continuing U.S. Navy exercises there. Ninety-two percent of those polled consider drugs to be Puerto Rico's principal problem, while 91 percent are worried about crime and safety, although the issue of corruption rose the most, rising to 72 percent from 60 percent in a May 1999 poll.
