Senate Vote On Vieques Proposal Delayed, Vieques Options Study May Be Ready In Two Months, Kennedy Takes First Step In Suit Against Navy Bombing

Memorial Day will be observed throughout the U.S. on Monday, May 29. Inaugurated in 1868, it is a day to remember and honor all Americans who have died during our nation’s wars and conflicts, including the almost 2,000 Puerto Ricans who have sacrificed their lives under the flag of the United States of America.

"No ethnic group has greater pride in itself and its heritage than the Puerto Rican people. Nor have I encountered any that can be more dedicated and zealous in support of the democratic principles for which the United States stands. Many Puerto Ricans have fought to the death to uphold them."

-Gen. William A. Harris
Commander, 65th Infantry Regiment
