Locally based employment web site, NetEmpleo.com, is now posting employment positions, offering opportunities for job seekers and for recruiters and employers, an online source for identifying prospective hires.

The Spanish-language site made its debut on the Web on Aug. 7, and the first local job postings appeared on the online job board this past week. The site is modeled after major international sites, but is specialized to principally serve the Puerto Rico geographic region.

"We conducted a survey of local companies a few months back and the results were very encouraging," said Carlos J. Rodriguez, president of Solutionsfinder.com, the Web site’s parent company. "More than 80 companies expressed an interest in having a web-based alternative for posting job openings."

Rodriguez said site officials are also presently negotiating with eight local recruiting agencies that may be interested in the site as a way to reach a broader audience of candidates and possibly reduce the amount of money spent on classified print ads.

The main page lists 36 job categories from accounting to sales, and the number of job openings in each area. Users can click on the category to see a listing of available positions. Each posting includes information on how an applicant can contact the company to apply for the position. Each job posting appears for one, two, four, six, or eight weeks depending upon the desires of the employer. The price range for job postings is from $35 for one week, to $150 for eight weeks of exposure on the site.

One unique feature of this job board is that job seekers can register to be notified by e-mail when positions in their selected professional categories are posted. Another is a resume bank, which is still under development, but when completed will provide a database of resumes for companies and recruiters to search through.

Rodriguez believes the site’s domain name with the word "empleo" is a great advantage because Spanish-speaking job seekers are likely to use that word in an Internet search and it increases the probability of them finding encountering the site. He said the Internet address has also been submitted or suggested to more than 100 different search engines to increase the job board’s exposure. The founder added that while he works toward getting the site indexed in International search engines, it has already been visited by individuals as far away as Argentina and Taiwan.
